Is This Thing On?
I've been tossing the idea around for a while now of starting a blog about my diabetic journey-- not because it hasn't been done before because it has been done well. My motivation comes more from knowing from experience how SUPER helpful these blogs can be. I think I probably google a question about diabetes and see what other diabetics have said before I even ask the doctor. So, maybe I can be that for someone else. If nothing else, it will be a good place to dump my thoughts about this often-complicated disease. Another reason, though, has to do with my identity as a Black woman. As a kid, and even now, I'm always looking for how the experiences of others who look like me compare to what I go through. And, to be honest, thats been hard to find! It's been hard to find the experiences of a Black female, in her early 20's, with type 1 diabetes, who didn't get diagnosed until she was an adult (26, to be exact). Maybe my case is the only one???...But I doubt it....
